Just bought a ticket. Will get out to Ventura early and visit Anacapa Ukulele, then have a nice dinner, then see the show. Looking forward to seeing fellow WUErs there.
Jake's show was pretty great last night, WOW. He had a bass player on a few songs, which was fine, a bit boomy at times, but still good. The Majestic Theatre was packed, 1200 seats, and the lighting was done very well. He played for about an hour and forty-five minutes; including "Bohemian Rhapsody," "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," "Amazing Grace," and "Hallelujah." He also did a good amount of original material, I especially enjoyed the Japanese piece, the electronic live overdubbing, and the tribute piece to his grandmother. He also did a few pieces on a vintage baritone.
I bought the $25 general admission tickets, thinking the $35 VIP tickets were for a meet & greet with Jake, but I was wrong, general admission was balcony or standing in the back of the main floor, VIP was on the main floor, should have done the VIP ticket, oh well.
Saw Jeff and his wife at Anacapa Ukulele store, I happened to stand in line with a couple of people from the the CC Strummers group I'm also with, and Lori and her husband had a very nice Uke Leash booth in the lobby with all of her merchandise (I bought a leather Circle of Fifths guide). Lot's of merchandising, and Jake came out to the lobby to meet & greet and sign autographs.
Took a nice long ride home, and damn, ran out of gas on the 405 just at the Santa Monica Blvd. offramp, which was closed. Good thing I have AAA. My gas gauge is not working and you know I'm getting fixed today!
Good seeing you there Michael. Yes, the show was terrific and you have summarized it well. I thought the sound was a bit off at times. A little trebly here and there and a bit boomy and muffled sounding on the bass as you mentioned. But a great show nonetheless. Great to see Lori there as well and also got myself a leather Circle of 5ths guide.
I hung around after for a bit and got a chance to talk with Jake and have him sign my Peace, Love, Ukulele book. I mentioned the Westside Ukulele group to him and he was interested and very nice about it. A very humble guy. Really a terrific night all around!
